Goodbye Bonanza View Ward!

No Longer Updating this Calendar

On April 17, 2016 changes were made to ward boundaries within our stake and as a result, the Bonanza View Ward members were divided into two...

**Young Women Upcoming Events**

Sunday, January 31, 2010

I know that today is still only January 31st but I wanted to get a head start on updating the blog with the value of the month for February. There are so many things going on the first week or so in February that it feels like it’s half over already! The value that we will be focusing on this month is Divine Nature.

In a talk simply titled “To Young Women” Elder Jeffrey R. Holland encourages us to be women of Christ and to cherish our esteemed place in the sight of God. We are all spirit daughters of heavenly parents with a divine nature and an eternal destiny.

(I love Elder Holland and I am so excited that we will get to meet with him next Sunday in a special meeting!)

I have included this link to help you as you work on the Divine Nature value this month and as you do, try to remember your divine qualities... Be partakers of the Divine Nature... Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

Personal Progress Update

I can’t believe that January is half over already! It’s been a very busy month so far! For our Personal Progress activity our Laurels planned a very special event called Women of Virtue. They asked several women from our ward and a few from our stake to portray virtuous women from throughout the scriptures. Each of the sisters set themselves up at different houses throughout our ward and we walked from house to house to hear the various portrayals. We ended the night with a bonfire testimony meeting. It was a great activity and all of our girls felt the spirit and enjoyed themselves.

Our value for the month of January is FAITH.

In April of 2003 in General Conference President Richard G Scott gave a talk called “The Sustaining Power of Faith in Times of Uncertainty and Testing” In this talk he says “Faith in God and in His guidance through the Holy Spirit will sustain you in an increasingly more challenging world.” Faith will forge strength of character available to you in times of urgent need. Such character is not developed in moments of great challenge or temptation. That is when it is used. Character is woven patiently from threads of principle, doctrine, and obedience. In James we read: “The trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” The bedrock of character is integrity. Worthy character will strengthen your capacity to obediently respond to the direction of the Spirit. Righteous character is what you are becoming. It is more important than what you own, what you have learned, or what goals you have accomplished. It allows you to be trusted. Righteous character provides the foundation of spiritual strength. It enables you in times of trial and testing to make difficult, extremely important decisions correctly even when they seem overpowering. It is through our faith that we will be able to endure to the end.

I encourage each of you to look for ways this month to complete some of your Faith Value Experiences. If you have already finished Faith, look for ways to strengthen your faith and help others.

A Brand New Year!

Welcome to 2010! We are looking forward to this year and all of the exciting things that it will bring! The new mutual theme for 2010 is “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9

In his talk “May You Have Courage” President Monson states “My earnest prayer is that you will have the courage required to refrain from judging others, the courage to be chaste and virtuous, and the courage to stand firm for truth and righteousness.” This goes along with the standards found in For the Strength of Youth. In accordance with the new theme we will be focusing on these standards during our combined and class activities.

We also want to help each of the girls meet their Personal Progress goals so we are asking them to bring their Personal Progress books with them to mutual every week from now on. The first Wednesday of every month is typically a combined young women activity and we try to choose an activity that goes along with the value of the month so that they can pass something off every month. We also hand out Personal Progress helps on the first Sunday of each month which gives the girls some ideas of things they can do to pass off some of the other value experiences. **New Personal Progress books have been ordered for all of our girls - we hope to have these in time for New Beginnings**
