MiaMaid Update by Sabrina Justice

The Mia Maid class has been quite busy the last few months doing everything from educational, active and service activities.
Going back a few months ago the YW and YM had a service project where we helped pull weeds all around the church parking lot. Although it was windy and a bit cold we all felt good at the end of it. It was nice seeing how our hard work paid off!
In July the Mia Maids planned a dessert cook-off for the combined activity. This was a very competitive activity with judges and everything. In all the hustle and stressfulness of trying to beat the clock every team came together and showed great teamwork! This was a fun activity that the Mia Maids enjoyed planning. Not to mention that tasting all the desserts was awesome too!
One of the most recent activities our class has done was going to visit everyone in our class. We all had a nice time taking awesome homemade cookies that Marissa made and giving them some handouts that Kimmie had collected over a few weeks. It was great talking to the girls that were home and we look forward to visiting them again and seeing them at church too!
The latest activity that the Mia Maid class has done was making recipe books. Sister Mallory brought a ton of cool scrapbooking things and each girl got to make a cute cover for her book. We also brought a few dishes that we got to eat as we made our books. Marissa brought a fantastic pasta and Sister DeVoge brought this wonderful fruit dip. After making our covers Sister Mallory surprised us all as she gave us about 100 amazing recipes to start our books off with. Everyone was so excited for our new books and I think all the parents were too! We are all going to be Emeril's now! Our cooking is just going to be like BAM!!! All us girls look forward to taking these books to college and etc. This was a wonderful activity.
Thank you Sister Mallory and Sister DeVoge for everything you do for our little Mia Maid class!

August Giveaway!

I know, I know! I said I would post the winner of the blog giveaway on
September 1st! A winner was chosen on the first but I haven't had a chance to update the blog.... this has been a hectic week; the first week back to school for my kids which includes volleyball, homework, fundraisers, and just trying to get back into a regular routine. On top of that add the "pleasure" of trying to pack up and move an entire office and set up a whole new office without disrupting the day-to-day business flow with my clients. My days have been long and my spare time has been short! I'll be glad when the 10th is here so that hopefully things will settle down a little!
Now, on to the moment you've all been waiting for!
The winner of the August Giveaway is Sabrina Justice!
Yeah Sabrina! Thank you for your comments (Nell, you too!) :)
Sabrina has also given me a blog entry for the MiaMaid class which I will be posting later today.
Sabrina, look for your prize to be delivered soon!

Bringing You Up to Date

It’s been quite a while since I’ve sat down and taken the time to update the blog. We decided as a presidency that we wanted the girls to contribute to the blog so I’ve been waiting (and hoping) for some input from them. So far though … nothing (hint, hint girls!).
So, since mid-March we’ve had a ton of awesome activities that have gone on! I will try to re-cap a few of them… First, we had the amazing “Delete Key” talk by President Tom Wilson at our March Bishop’s Youth Fireside; we were inspired by our leaders in the General Young Women Meeting and then again in General Conference; we had dinner with Patriarch Swainston and learned more about the importance of patriarchal blessings; we were reminded of how special we are in an amazing talk by Sister Ginger Ewell at our Stake Young Women Standards Night; we laughed and we cried as we listened to the awe- inspiring stories and talents of Brother Alex Boye’ at a special fireside that the Sunrise Stake invited us to at the close of their youth conference; we had a great time at our own youth conference despite the windy weather that caused us to have to go to “plan B” at the last minute; we had fun with our moms at a mother-daughter barbeque; and finally, in mid-July our young women and leaders were inspired at stake girls camp where the theme was “Live Like You Believe”. Within our own ward we chose to be “Keepers of Faith” and our young women were shining examples of truth and righteousness throughout the week.
That brings us up to August! Phew! We started off the month with a great lesson on service by Sister Cahoon. Our theme for the month is virtue and several of the girls are working on trying to complete the reading of the Book of Mormon as part of the Personal Progress program.
We also had a VERY special Daddy-Daughter Dinner-Date this past week. Our Beehive class planned this activity; we had great food, fun (and funny) games, and they all learned how to do the Watermelon Crawl! It looked like everyone had a great time!
Even though the posts on here haven’t been current, the calendar is ALWAYS current. Please rely on it to see what is going on in the young women program. I have dates on the calendar throughout the rest of the year for most of our major events. There are also school related items on the calendar that affect the CCSD students.
Lastly, it would be nice to know that people actually read this blog and that it’s not just a big waste of my time…. So between now, August 8, 2010 and August 30, 2010 if you read this blog and leave a comment on the blog you will be entered into a drawing… the winner will be chosen at random on September 1, 2010 and will receive 3 dozen of my homemade chocolate/peanut butter chip cookies. Not a very expensive prize, but a very delicious prize…  Happy reading!

Monday, March 15, 2010

The clock says sit’s after midnight but my mind and body aren’t quite there yet thanks to the wonderful affect of Daylight Saving Time! I know I say this every time I update the blog but I can’t believe it’s already the middle of March! I really don’t know where the time goes. Is it just me?

Our young women have been busy. New Beginnings turned out beautifully! Part of the program that night involved the young women taking about 15 minutes to set some Personal Progress goals with their parents. This has been really successful and quite a few of our girls have passed off value experiences and have value projects in the works now. We were all also excited to learn about the changes in the Personal Progress program.

We had a very good turnout for our first CiCi’s Pizza Family Night and we’re looking forward to the next one in April!

From now until March 28th the young women are selling pies for Easter. The pies are $10 each. There are many kinds to choose from and all of them are available in sugar-free too. We’ll be delivering those on Saturday, April 3rd. The proceeds from the pie sales will help pay for girls camp and other young women activities we’ll have throughout the year. We really appreciate all of the support we get!

The value that we are focusing on this month is Individual Worth. It is so very important for our young women to realize their individual worth. Sister Jewitt gave a wonderful lesson on fast Sunday that focused on this. She really did a great job of helping me as a sister understand how much our Heavenly Father loves me and I hope that the girls understood the message that she was trying to portray as well as I did. I read a great story a while back; a talk by President Faust called We Believe in You. If you have a moment, I encourage you to read it; the message is very clear that we are all choice daughters of a loving Heavenly Father.

My body is now starting to catch up with the clock so I better get this posted and get to sleep.

Remember to Be Strong and of a Good Courage!

Sunday, January 31, 2010

I know that today is still only January 31st but I wanted to get a head start on updating the blog with the value of the month for February. There are so many things going on the first week or so in February that it feels like it’s half over already! The value that we will be focusing on this month is Divine Nature.
Photobucket

In a talk simply titled “To Young Women” Elder Jeffrey R. Holland encourages us to be women of Christ and to cherish our esteemed place in the sight of God. We are all spirit daughters of heavenly parents with a divine nature and an eternal destiny.

(I love Elder Holland and I am so excited that we will get to meet with him next Sunday in a special meeting!)

I have included this link to help you as you work on the Divine Nature value this month and as you do, try to remember your divine qualities... Be partakers of the Divine Nature... Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

Personal Progress Update

I can’t believe that January is half over already! It’s been a very busy month so far! For our Personal Progress activity our Laurels planned a very special event called Women of Virtue. They asked several women from our ward and a few from our stake to portray virtuous women from throughout the scriptures. Each of the sisters set themselves up at different houses throughout our ward and we walked from house to house to hear the various portrayals. We ended the night with a bonfire testimony meeting. It was a great activity and all of our girls felt the spirit and enjoyed themselves.

Our value for the month of January is FAITH.

In April of 2003 in General Conference President Richard G Scott gave a talk called “The Sustaining Power of Faith in Times of Uncertainty and Testing” In this talk he says “Faith in God and in His guidance through the Holy Spirit will sustain you in an increasingly more challenging world.” Faith will forge strength of character available to you in times of urgent need. Such character is not developed in moments of great challenge or temptation. That is when it is used. Character is woven patiently from threads of principle, doctrine, and obedience. In James we read: “The trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” The bedrock of character is integrity. Worthy character will strengthen your capacity to obediently respond to the direction of the Spirit. Righteous character is what you are becoming. It is more important than what you own, what you have learned, or what goals you have accomplished. It allows you to be trusted. Righteous character provides the foundation of spiritual strength. It enables you in times of trial and testing to make difficult, extremely important decisions correctly even when they seem overpowering. It is through our faith that we will be able to endure to the end.

I encourage each of you to look for ways this month to complete some of your Faith Value Experiences. If you have already finished Faith, look for ways to strengthen your faith and help others.

A Brand New Year!

Welcome to 2010! We are looking forward to this year and all of the exciting things that it will bring! The new mutual theme for 2010 is “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9

In his talk “May You Have Courage” President Monson states “My earnest prayer is that you will have the courage required to refrain from judging others, the courage to be chaste and virtuous, and the courage to stand firm for truth and righteousness.” This goes along with the standards found in For the Strength of Youth. In accordance with the new theme we will be focusing on these standards during our combined and class activities.

We also want to help each of the girls meet their Personal Progress goals so we are asking them to bring their Personal Progress books with them to mutual every week from now on. The first Wednesday of every month is typically a combined young women activity and we try to choose an activity that goes along with the value of the month so that they can pass something off every month. We also hand out Personal Progress helps on the first Sunday of each month which gives the girls some ideas of things they can do to pass off some of the other value experiences. **New Personal Progress books have been ordered for all of our girls - we hope to have these in time for New Beginnings**
